Cosmetic Nasal Surgery (Nose Job)
The nose is perhaps one of the most prominent features of the human face. It adds character and balance to it. Have you looked in the mirror ever so often, wishing that you could alter the way your nose looks? Cosmetic nasal surgery provides the perfect solution. Not only can this procedure take care of birth defects, injury and breathing problems but also reshape the nose to look more aesthetically pleasing. Cosmetic nasal surgery provides individuals to reshape their nose by increasing or reducing its size, reshaping the tip, reducing the size of the nostrils or changing the angle between the nose and the upper pp. Cosmetic nasal surgery is performed by a cosmetic or plastic surgeon and it is vital that you select a skilled and competent surgeon.
While cosmetic nasal surgery is available in most parts of the country, Honolulu, Hawaii is the top destination for people looking to have rhinoplasty done. This is basically because of the top grade surgical and medical service available here. Also the beautiful setting of this tropical paradise provides a great place to recover after the cosmetic nasal surgery. Dr. Michael Pasquale in Honolulu, Hawaii is one of the few surgeons in the world who has completed his residency in plastic surgery and gone ahead to do a 2-year training course in the sub-specialty of cosmetic surgery under the country’s top plastic and cosmetic surgeons at NYU Downtown Hospital in Manhattan.
About Cosmetic Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
An ideal candidate for cosmetic nasal surgery (Rhinoplasty) should not be of less than 15 years so that growth of the nose has taken place properly before the surgery (in boys it takes a while longer). There is no upper age limit for the cosmetic nasal surgery as long as the individual is in good mental and physical health.
A rhinoplasty takes about 1-2 hours and may take longer depending on the extent of surgery required. Cosmetic nasal surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia.
Rhinoplasty involves removing the skin from the bone and cartilage and reshaping the latter as desired. Thereafter the skin is replaced. The incisions for the surgery may be made from inside the nostrils or in an ‘open technique’ at the base of the nose. The ‘open technique’ is required in particular if the nostrils need to be narrowed. After the surgery a splint is used to support the nose and maintain its shape.
Scarring from rhinoplasty surgery is minimal and would be virtually invisible in a few months.
Initially after the cosmetic nasal surgery (rhinoplasty) the nose and surrounding area feels swollen and sore and the surgeon may prescribe medication for the same. Cold compressions are also useful in reducing the discomfort. The patient is advised to keep his or her head elevated while lying down and the swelling reduces after the stitches are removed in about 10-14 days. Thereafter the individual can return to his or her normal routine but needs to be careful and adhere to the precautions suggested by the surgeon. In particular activities that increase blood pressure should be avoided. It takes about a year for the patient to fully recover from cosmetic nasal surgery.
While risk of complications with cosmetic nasal surgery or rhinoplasty is minimal there is always a chance of infection, complications due to a reaction to anesthesia, nosebleed, etc.
However, selecting the right surgeon and adhering to all the post-operative care advice can dramatically reduce these.
